Assessment:

  • Practical: Completed through the training/assessment day – involves aggressive and defensive swimming, performing tows, T and x rescues, a strainer swim, throw bag use, setting up a Z drag/vector, knot tying, communication, foot entrapment scenarios
  • Quiz: An online quiz is made available to participants upon registration that needs to be completed prior to the practical program
  • Project: An online project is made available to participants upon registration that needs to be completed prior to the practical program

Description

Swiftwater Rescue 2 course

The holder of this qualification has demonstrated the ability to manage rescue situations from a craft and gear retrieval in Grade 2 Whitewater. The River Rescue II course is the industry benchmark certification designed to meet the needs of white water paddling Guides and Instructors for the outdoor industry across education, recreational and tourism sectors nationwide. It also a great source of knowledge for recreational paddlers who want to understand the processes and best practices to keep themselves and others safe while on river.
This is a 2 day course:
October 11-12th 2025
If you have your own or can borrow a helmet, whitewater Rescue lifejacket with tow tail and knife and a throwbag please do as you will get more out of the course. We will provide basic lifejackets and helmets for use if needed.
If you want to complete your kayak qualification we will have 1-2 available or you can bring your own.

Byo lunch, snacks, drink bottles, drinking water, raincoat and if camping on-site – camping gear

Wear closed toed shoes with good grip, swimmers, long shorts/pants and long sleeve shirt. Wetsuit top/dry top or thermals/wetsuit recommended as some time will be spent in the river each day.

The exact location of the course will be determined closer to the time, once we have assessed localised rainfall and River levels. It will be somewhere on the Clarence River Whitewater Canoe & Kayak trail.
