If you’re ready to turn your passion for paddling into meaningful work, this immersive training pathway gives you everything you need to become a Paddle NSW–accredited Whitewater Canoe or Kayak Guide/Instructor.
Across a sequence of courses throughout May, you’ll learn to read rivers, manage risk, support groups, and embody calm, capable leadership in dynamic environments.
You can join individual modules, or complete the full Guide/Instructor pathway from 7–12 May 2026.
Description
Become a Paddle NSW–accredited Whitewater Canoe or Kayak Guide/Instructor by completing all the key components of the qualification in one organised training block. Across six days, you’ll develop the technical skills, rescue competency, and leadership required to guide others safely on moving water.
Training Breakdown:

7–8 May: Whitewater Guide Course

If you’re completing the kayak qualification, you can hire a kayak through our website or bring your own. BYO food, drinking water, and camping gear.
Assessment Requirements
To gain accreditation as a Paddle NSW Whitewater Guide/Instructor, you’ll complete:

Practical Assessment – delivered during the final two days

Online Quiz – available upon registration, to be completed before assessment

Online Project – also available upon registration and required prior to the practical program
Location
The exact location will be confirmed closer to the date, based on river levels and recent rainfall.
All courses are held on sections of the Clarence Canoe & Kayak Trail, ensuring safe, suitable, and inspiring training conditions.
If you want to stay nearby/on-site during the course, you will need to book camping or accommodation at at either the Clarence River Wilderness Lodge, the Nymboida Camping & Canoe Centre or The Gorge station, once the course location has been confirmed.
Additional Notes
After completing the JOIN training and assessment, you will register with Paddle Australia to formalise your qualification.
Registration fees are paid directly to Paddle Australia and renewed every 3 years. Full pricing is available on their website.
