Intro to whitewater Rescue 2 course – canoe, kayak or packraft

The holder of this qualification has demonstrated the ability to manage rescue situations from a craft and gear retrieval in Grade 2 Whitewater. This course is a basic introduction to whitewater rescue. It covers signals, safe swimming and river crossing techniques, river features, self rescue and buddy rescues techniques, basic knots and strategies for how to unpin a craft. It is a great source of knowledge for recreational paddlers who want to understand the processes and best practices to keep themselves and others safe while on river, or a good prerequisite for those looking to hire whitewater craft
This is a 1 day course:

If you have your own or can borrow a helmet, whitewater Rescue lifejacket with tow tail and knife and a throwbag please do as you will get more out of the course. We will provide basic lifejackets and helmets for use if needed.
If you want to complete your kayak or packraft qualification we will have 1-2 available or you can bring your own.

Byo lunch, snacks, drink bottles, drinking water, raincoat and if camping on-site – camping gear

Wear closed toed shoes with good grip, swimmers, long shorts/pants and long sleeve shirt. Wetsuit top/dry top or thermals/wetsuit recommended as some time will be spent in the river each day.

The exact location of the course will be determined closer to the time, once we have assessed localised rainfall and River levels. It will be somewhere on the Clarence River Whitewater Canoe & Kayak trail.
